The Real Cost of Filming in Hong Kong | Catch Lyt
The quote is not the cost. The morning of the shoot is where the rest appears.
Hong Kong is an efficient place to produce. It is not always a cheap one once access, time and density are in the picture. Location fees, permits, parking, loading rules and internal school or club approvals can all move the real number — especially in Central and Tsim Sha Tsui.
1. Confirm access in pre-production
Assumptions about “we can just set up there” are a common source of friction on the day. Speak to the location or the client’s facilities team while there is still time to change the plan.
2. Private sites have private timelines
International schools and clubs often have their own approval chains. Those can take longer than a public-area notification. Build that into the schedule, not the morning call sheet.
3. Density has a price
Loading bays, restricted parking, lift bookings, security sign-in: none of this is dramatic. All of it costs minutes, and minutes cost crew.
4. Put a contingency on location, not only on weather
A small buffer for fees and delays is usually wiser than discovering the constraint when the van is already on the curb.
None of this makes Hong Kong difficult. It means the visible line items are not the only ones that matter. Check early. Then the city works with you.
